Airport Heights Playground to Temporarily Close June 3rd

(Coos County, OR) – The Coos County Airport District (CCAD) will begin a multi-year park rehabilitation project with the removal of some playground equipment this weekend at Airport Heights Park. Because of the work, the playground area will be closed to the public.

CCAD recently assumed responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the park after a lengthy land lease was terminated with the City of North Bend. The park is located within the property boundary of the Coos County Airport District.

The Airport Heights Park overhaul will start with the removal of some of the playground equipment that has fallen into disrepair. Current Airport Commissioner Mike Collins who owns O’Neill’s Overhead Doors, has volunteered to remove the equipment with the assistance of airport staff. The work will take place during the day on Saturday, June 3, 2023. The playground area will be closed to the public for safety. Removal could continue through Sunday, June 4, 2023, causing an additional closure.

The CCAD Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of two new pieces of playground equipment for initial installation. A swing set and multi-use Synergy Play System have been ordered and will be installed upon delivery. The district will be working with a local organization on a multi-year phased plan for the airport park property.

The public will have several opportunities for input and to learn more about the project over the course of this planning stage. For more information, visit www.flyoth.com, call (541) 756-8531, or email info@flyoth.com. You can also follow the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport on Facebook.
